Chapter Five

Kim walked into her office preparing for the work day. Several weeks had passed since her incident with Devin. Her life finally seemed to come back into balance. Spending the majority of her time on her draftees was what she was focused on.

With the MLB and NBA drafts being only weeks apart she had to make sure to do what was best for David and Jaylen. She’d received several calls of interest for them and was sure they would go in the first round.

“I’m not sure why you’re still scouting me out to other teams,” Jaylen questioned during a conversation they were having.

He repeated his same argument that the owner had made a call to his father.

“That does not always guarantee you’ll be their pick.”

Kim tried to explain it to him and his parents over and over again. What she didn’t want to admit was that she was sure Devin would not have him go to the Flashes, if for no other reason than to spite her.

“I’ll trust your judgment.”

That was great for her to hear because on some days she didn’t even trust herself. Why would she allow herself to get involved with a man that she knew did not make sound business decisions? She had allowed her body to think for her. However those days were gone and the tycoon known as Kim Fletcher was back.

Ring. Ring.

“Yes Tami.”

“Ms. Fletcher there is a reporter for the Times here to see you.”

“Allow me one moment and I’ll be out.”

She was not sure the nature of the visit, but she always had to be prepared for the magnitude of questions that they would ask. After taking a final look-over she turned the knob to enter the lobby. She flashed her ‘I’m always on top’ smile before turning the corner. When arriving at the front desk she saw Tiffany Rugby.

“You don’t work for the Times,” Kim announced as she narrowed the distance between them.

Tiffany extended her hand toward her and she gave it a shake.

“I thought if I said who I was really with you wouldn’t want to see me,” Tiffany offered.

Kim noticed out of the corner of her eye that Tami had stood and was holding the receiver in her hand.

“What brings you here?”

“I wanted to get an inside exclusive of you and your business.”

“And.”

“No and, just the exclusive, I don’t want you talking to every other reporter in town.”

“I don’t see them kicking my door in.”

“They don’t know the gold mine you’re sitting on.”

Kim’s smile broadened a little more after that statement.

“Why don’t we talk about it in my office?”

Tiffany explained that she knew how it was in being in a male controlled business. She wanted to make sure Kim was showcased in the best possible light.

“I see you dominating the sports industry.”

“My goal is to have a client in every sport.”

“I know you won’t stop until you have accomplished just that.”

“You best believe that’s the truth.”

“What I’d like to do is a video segment that will air as a special on ESPN.
